Mandalas, Sanskrit for “circle” have historically been used as meditation and as symbols of prayer. In 2020 I began creating mandalas to cope with my anxiety over the pandemic and the social inequity faced in our world as a whole. They became prayers created to provide a sense of peace within myself as the world changed, and as I was confronted my own implicit biases. The daily ritual became a spiritual practice, a way to capture the time. The undulating forms and lines are symbolic of bodily movement, of movements large and small, that occur in our individual bodies, and in our shared one, the greater “circle” that is our planet.
